Research: Propp - Character Roles; Taylor Swift Love Story

Propp created a theory in the 1920's based upon fairytales and the different roles within fairytales, such as there are always the following roles; the villain, the false hero, the helper', the princess, and her father.

This theory is highly relevant in the Taylor Swift music video Love Story, this is a narrative video and is a modern version of the Romeo and Juliet story.

The establishing shot for this music video is a wide angle shot of a college, implying the people in the video will be young students.

This shot is a medium close up of the artist, the look on her face tells us she someone has caught her eye. It is a male and his head is pictured in the bottom right corner. As Taylor is not performing it is clear that this video is a narrative video.

Influenced
This research has inspired me as I now have the idea to ensure I also have clear character roles in my music similar to the suggestions from Propp.
