Research: Analysing Twenty One Pilots House of Gold 1

The establishing shot of this music video is an extreme long shot which shows a countryside landscape as the sun rises. This countryside image suggests a lifestyle of a farmer which may imply a country singer however this breaks conventions of the band as there genre of music is alternative hip hop/rock. This establishing shot suggests a country music audience however that is not the genre of the band.

The establishing shot which was rather idillic soon fades and cuts to shots which show bloody hay and a bloody tyre from a piece of farm machinery.

This quickly changes the potential genre of the music and brings in a more rock vibe as country music conventions would not include images of blood which suggest violence, however rock music often has links with violence.

This close up shot shows one of the band artist
playing the ukelele in camera, which shows the alternative hip hop side to this band as a ukelele is a unusual instrument to play. At the bottom of the artist shirt there appears to be blood, linking with violence and shows were the blood in previous shots may have come from. This leads to a rather mysterious atmosphere, you begin to wonder what may of happened to the artist.

This medium shot shows the artist singing and playing an instrument into camera. The fact the artist sings and plays an instrument into camera shows that the artist is confident in themselves as they are broadcasting the fact he can sing and play instrument. This follows conventions of a band as it is very common to see artists perform into camera.

In this medium shot it shows a shadow of person, however the shadow only shows the top half of the person as though they have no legs. This could be a possible explanation to the blood pictured in previous screen grabs.

This long shot shows the beautiful landscape once again, it also shows overgrown grass along with farm machinery such as the large tyre and the plough. Next to the tyre appears a man who is laid motionless and appears the original artist we saw and it confirms that he does not have legs as suspected from the previous screen grab.

This over the shoulder shot shows a woman from inside the house picture in the last screen grab, she appears to be washing dishes which is a stereotypical role for a woman to be doing house work. It also shows the same member of the band singing outside of the house without legs, this could imply the woman hurt these two men and perhaps for a reason and he may be apologising.
This medium shot shows the second and final artist, the costume of the two artists do not vary a huge amount, both wear shirts the second artists is more vibrant however. This artist also appears to have no legs. I think it shows that the first artist we see is the main band member as he appears first and the second member does not appear until well into the first minute, showing he may not be as significant. This artist appears to be the drummer as he bangs his fist against the truck in time with the beat.

In this long shot both members of the band are pictured while one plays the ukulele and sings the other bangs the base of the truck in time to the music. In the background is the beautiful landscape as pictured earlier.

In this long shot image again both artists are featured while one sings and plays the ukulele the other plays the drum. It is clearly visible that both artists have no legs which again leaves us questioning what happened to them.

In this long shot it features the drummers legs which is the first time they are pictured. The drummer appears to be playing against an old tyre sticking with the theme of farm machinery, also picturing the beautiful scenery once more.

In this final long shot it pictures the sun slowly setting, this contrast the original shot which showed the sun rising. This could represent the end of the story created in this music video.
