Planning : Making the council and police aware

I have emailed the local council and police to make sure they are aware of when we will be filming and that we will not be filming the public.

Research: Adele Hello Close ups

This high angle close up shows Adele looking sad, the use of the high shot gives a representation that Adele is weak and powerless.

This close up shot is very expressive and shows how much power Adele puts into her singing and how much emotion is behind the lyrics.

This close up shot is also very expressive and almost shows the pain in Adele's face showing how truly sorry she is.

This close up shows Adele's face filling the entire of the screen, I need to include shots similar to this in order to launch my star.

Research: Propp - Character Roles; Taylor Swift Love Story

Propp created a theory in the 1920's based upon fairytales and the different roles within fairytales, such as there are always the following roles; the villain, the false hero, the helper', the princess, and her father.

This theory is highly relevant in the Taylor Swift music video Love Story, this is a narrative video and is a modern version of the Romeo and Juliet story.

The establishing shot for this music video is a wide angle shot of a college, implying the people in the video will be young students.

This shot is a medium close up of the artist, the look on her face tells us she someone has caught her eye. It is a male and his head is pictured in the bottom right corner. As Taylor is not performing it is clear that this video is a narrative video.

Influenced
This research has inspired me as I now have the idea to ensure I also have clear character roles in my music similar to the suggestions from Propp.

Planning : Star Image change

My partner and I are using a different star image, a year 12 girl named Heather with experience in singing and dancing who will perform excellently for my partner and I.

Our male star image is also a year 12 at our sixth form who is also experienced with singing and will therefore be excellent for our video.

Planning: Risk Assessment

I have been filling out this risk assessment
for when we will e filming at my house and in the close surrounding areas.

Research: Possible change of female star image

We are considering changing our star image as Chloe has not been able to finalise any dates for us to film with her. We are asking another year 12 student who is very familiar with performing as she does a great deal of singing and dancing therefore she would be great in our video as will be slightly familiar with the situation.

Conclusions of Research

Shot types and camera movement
high angle shots gave a true representation of  situation, this showed me that angles can add a lot to a story.

The end of the video [ final shot] all of the main characters have their issues resolved and are having a good time which inspires me to have my characters happy at the ending of my video.

Mise en scene: locations, set design, make up, costume, framing

Make up – the  look is rather natural but has a very glowy look and a sudden pop at the eyes of the artist. I really love this make up look and think it would suit perfectly in the pop genre which my chosen song Ellie Goulding's 'Lost and Found' is. I am considering using such a look on my star in certain parts of the video but not thought the entire video.

A  natural make up look such as this would be perfectly fitting in the country genre, as often they have natural hair, make up and even surroundings. A look like this may be appropriate in certain parts of my music video when the lyrics describe fields as fields are part of nature and this is a very natural make up look.

Clear character roles in my music similar to the suggestions from Propp.

Editing

Tuesday 11 October 2016

Group Post Principle Photography

Research: Principle Photography

The first image shows a sunrise/sunset sky, which is something that we need to look at and look into filming for our music video as one of our lyrics is "cherry sky". We need a pink to red sun lit sky, which we will have to shoot rather early or pretty late in the day, and may take a lot of effort to correct the lighting ect. Another option that we will have to look into using, is a CGI background if we cannot shoot the correct sky we want. This would mean a lot of editing in the post production phase, and it may take up a lot of time.
The second image is an image that will frame a model sufficiently, and looking into the proxemics of our video may be rather effective.

Research : Analysing TA focus group

We played our song to our focus group to allow them to get a feel fro the song and enable us to ask them what their ideas were for shots we could include in our video.

1. What images were iconic to you when you heard the lyrics?

  • Close ups of female star image
  • Male and female star image narrowly missing each other.
  • Female star image is happy
  • Fields and countryside.
This has changed our idea's as initially we planned to portray our female star image as lonely, however now we plan to make her appear happy but also have aspects or loneliness too.

2. Do you prefer narrative, performance or concept music videos?

  • A mixture of performance and narrative. More on the narrative side.
This has not altered much as my partner and I planned to have a mixture of the two however we will ensure the video is more narrative now.

3. Do toy prefer location or studio shots?

  • Our TA all said they preferred location shots.
This influenced our creativity as now we plan to only include a couple of studio shots if any at all.

4. Do you think the song and our ideas target both male and female audiences?

  • The TA group believe that we only targeted a female audience therefore we are planning to add elements in that may appeal more to a male audience.

5. Do you enjoy intertextuality?

  • As our song is quite as going our audience said they would enjoy intertextuality
We plan to include this by using sites such as tinder to show her loneliness.

6. Do you believe Chloe and Myles (out star images) make good star images for the video?

We never managed to ask this question therefore my partner and I will create a survey to see if our star images are appropriate.

7. Does our star image represent a modern representations of women?

  • Our TA group agreed that our star image represents a modern woman.

Research TA 1; focus group - initial ideas

Thursday 6 October 2016

Research ; TA Research Photos

These images were taken while my partner Jess and I were conducting target audience research, the group of people were a mixture of genders, all of similar ages.

Our TA research was conducted by playing the song off my partners phone and then recording the responses of the group on my phone.

As you can see in these images we are all deeply in thought and taking on board others ideas in order to make our video correct for our target audience.

Planning ; Beat Script

My partner Jess and I have created a beat script which forms a back story in order to help our creativity flow and come up with new ideas in order to create a full script.

Research: Questions for TA research group

The following questions are ones to be asked by my partner and I when talking to a focus group in order to get ideas from them:

1. What images were iconic to you when you heard the lyrics?
2. Do you prefer narrative, performance or concept music videos?
3. Do toy prefer location or studio shots?
4. Do you think the song and our ideas target both male and female audiences?
5. Do you enjoy intertextuality?
6. Do you believe Chloe and Myles (out star images) make good star images for the video?
7. Does our star image represent a modern representations of women?
